Water-borne Coatings for Plastic

Two-Package Urethanes

Jamestown’s water-borne two-component urethanes were developed to match the outstanding performance properties of solvent-borne two-package urethanes while offering reduced VOC and hazardous air pollutant (HAP) levels. As technology advances, these water-borne coatings are evolving to replace the proven solvent urethanes in performance while reducing solvent emissions.

Single Package Urethanes

Our desire to achieve the properties of a 2-package urethane with a single package product and progress in dispersion technology has lead to the development of single package polyurethane dispersions (PUD). These offer the same VOC and HAP advantages as the other waterborne technologies.

Acrylic Emulsions

Acrylic emulsions offer a lower cost low-VOC alternative when compared to urethanes. Jamestown has done extensive work on designing coatings to adhere to specific plastic types. Blending of acrylic emulsions with PUD’s has also become popular to enhance chemical resistance while keeping the cost down. Acrylic emulsions have found their way into many applications where fast dry is a key requirement.

Two-Package Urethanes

Two-package urethanes offer the properties of a typical baked finish using ambient cure temperatures. Two-package urethanes are especially beneficial when toughness and durability are expected.
